Introduction
The Department of Orthopaedics consists of a team of highly experienced surgeons who are at the forefront in offering the best treatment for various Orthopaedic problems like Trauma, Sports Injuries, Arthritis and the like. There is a highend dedicated operation theatre (OT) with laminar flow, a well-trained team, which is committed and efficient. The Department is 24 X 7 ready in treating Trauma, as well as performs other surgical procedures including the latest Arthroscopic Reconstructive techniques and Arthroplasties (Joint Replacement Surgeries) like Total Knee Replacement and Total Hip Replacements, as well as Paediatric Orthopaedics.
The Department is dedicated to providing excellent patient care and outstanding education to Undergraduate and Post Graduate students. We are committed to provide the best available treatment for all conditions of musculoskeletal system from newborns to the elderly. All manners of trauma cases are managed with latest implants and techniques.
Focus of the Department
- To make Orthopaedic Department into a specialized professional unit, achieving excellence in academic, clinical material and research. We also give due importance to patient care and the art of healing.
- To provide excellent facilities in Orthopaedic services in order to remain competent in the field , primarily by developing the skills of the doctors in various sub-specialties and upgrading the equipment required
- To develop and refine the art of teaching and build up the clinical database for research in order to provide an environment of excellence in education at both under graduate and post graduate level.

- Specialized spine unit performs cervical thoraco lumbar, lumbar spine surgeries on regular basis
- Specialized OPD clinics like Back ache clinic,Arthroscopy clinic, Knee &Hip arthroscopy clinic, Paediatric clinic, Deformity correction (CTEV, Scoliosis etc.)
- Well equipped modern operation theater with laminar flow mechanism and a trauma theater offers excellent orthopaedic work.

Teaching Programmes
Regular classes for MBBS students, post graduate MS Orthopaedics are conducted with seminars, ward rounds, journal presentations, case discussions and topic presentations.

- The national conference IOACON 2016, 2017 was attended by majority of our faculty
- Dr. K. C. Mathew (HOD) attended the International North American Conference, 2017, and Dr. Schatzkar conference in Banglore in 2017.
- The state conference TNOACON 2017 was also attended by most of our faculty.
- Observership in Joint Replacement done by Dr. R. Sahaya Jose at Apollo Speciality Hospital, Bangalore.
- Advanced training in Arthroscopy was attended by Dr. Gopalakrishnan.

Awards
- Well known Orthpaedic book ”Essentials of Clinical Orthopaedics ‘by Dr. Elangovan Chellappa is our senior faculty with long Orthopaedic teaching experience.
- Poster presentations by Dr. Gopala Krishanan at IOACON 2016 and was in organising committee in TNAOCON 2017.
- Poster and journal presenatation by Dr.Sahaya Jose at TNACON 2017 and was in organizing committee in TNAOCON 2017.
- Dr. Asharaf A. (post graduate) was selected as best badminton player award in TNACON 2017.
