Biochemistry

Introduction

The Biochemistry department is involved in Undergraduate teaching for MBBS, BDS, BSc (Nursing),  DMLT and post graduate course in MD  Biochemistry.  Students are encouraged in research activities to apply for research projects like ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research).

Facilities Available

The Department has research equipment such as high speed and ultra centrifuges, spectrophotometers, deep freezers, incubators, and general equipment such as microscope, spectrometer, and colorimeter.  Other facilities are

Academics for UG – I Year MBBS

  • UG theory class hours – 4 hours/ week
  • UG practical hours – 2 hours/week
  • UG monthly test – Once in a month for 2 hours – Saturday afternoon.
  • Sessional exam for UG: (Theory, practical and viva) – Once in 3 months with a total 3 sessional exams.
  • Model exam during the last month of the academic year – Theory Paper I and II, practicals and viva.
  • Tutorials and group discussion – Once in a week.
  • Seminar for all students – one topic per student

Academics for PG

  • PG theory class hours – 2 hours/ week; PG practicals hours – 2 hours/week
  • PG students are posted in Clinical laboratories for 3 months every year
  • Sessional exam for PGs: (Theory, practical and viva) – once in 3 months.
  • Seminar/journal club – once in a week.
  • Revision test for Final year PGs – once in a week
  • Model exam PGs in last month of final year – Theory Papers I, II, III, IV ; Practicals & Viva
