Significant Community Outreach activities
1990 – When Kanyakumari district was in distress during the unprecedented floods, our Chairman Dr. C. K. Velayudhan Nair, in association with HelpAge India, held 15 flood relief camps, in which health check ups and medicines, food, clothing, and utensils were distributed free along with redoing proper water and sanitation facilities in these areas.
1991- Through a unique community engagement programme named ‘Mathrusangam’, Dr Rema V. Nair organised vocational training programmes for housewives in the neighbourhood. They were made self-reliant by learning stitching, embroidery work, rope spinning, powder, soap, lotions and perfumes making, candle making, and diamond cutting. She also helped many old age homes by providing funds, food and free health check-ups.
2004 – The entire coastal belt of Tamil Nadu was ravaged by the Tsunami and many lost their lives and all their belongings. Our Chairman and Director were there in the middle of the relief and rescue operations, as they always were. They moved across the length and breadth of Kanyakumari district, spreading the positive message of hope among survivors, helping the needy and curing the ailing.
2015- We were at the fore front during the great Chennai floods. We donated Rs. 10, 00, 000/- to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, which the District Collector acknowledged as the largest single sum donated from Kanyakumari district. SMIMS management and students were there to support the victims with clothing and food.
2018-Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences donated Rs. 11, 00, 000/- worth Medicines, 10,000 Litres of mineral water and 15 Oxygen Cylinders for Kerala Flood Relief through Kanya Kumari Honourable District Collector Mr. Prashant M. Wadnere, IAS . Trustees Dr. Mookambika R. V. and Dr. Vinu Gopinath, and Administrative Officer Mr. J. S. Prasad represented the Chairman and Director of the Institute at the District Collectorate.
