Right from the days of Velayudhan Nair Memorial Hospital, the Chairman and Director have been sensitive to the community needs of the region inTamil Nadu and Kerala and voluntarily taken part in providing relief measures for victims of flood, Tsumani, and other natural disasters.  This has been in money and kind.  More details are available in the Community Outreach section.

This work continues on a regular basis too in the form of free camps for forest tribals, fishermen communities, and followed by subsidised to free inpatient treatment.  The Sree Mookambika Health Card, and Sree Mookambika Vanashakthi card schemes stand proof of this yeoman service to the community.

In SMIMS, the Peripheral Heath Centres, though a mandatory requirement for a Medical college institution, go beyond the call of duty by carrying out extensive preventive health camps, conduct awareness programmes as well as multi specialty Outpatients’ clinics to serve the community.  More information in Peripheral Health Centres.
